Staff Behind the Scenes: 2nd Edition
“We Put People to Work”, our Workforce #40 motto, Marlon Moore, One-Stop Center Manager embodies this motto.
It’s an average day for Mr. Marlon Moore. Clients come in and ask for him. When asked why they come in and ask for him by name, he is informed, “Mr. Marlon helps people get a job”.
He has a desire to assist people with barriers because, simply put, he has been on the other side of the desk. He strives to provide excellent customer service for each person that walks in for assistance by being open to their situation and extending understanding and care to assist everyone with getting employed. His goal is for applicants to enter the center and obtain as much knowledge as possible before they leave the center.
Mr. Moore is always willing to assist. He has been known to sit side-by-side with applicants and walk them through each step of the application process.
Moore stated that a full circle moment is received when someone receives a job. Some applicants have also returned to the job center and express gratitude for the assistance.
During Moore’s time in his position, he has enjoyed learning everything he can. He stated his passion lies with relaying information on resume-building assistance or other skills to the youth to prepare them to be work-ready (ready to enter the workforce) for their first job. Moore’s words of encouragement to colleagues include, “We must provide service to individuals; we must look at our job as a service that assists the public in the community and without this service, the workforce may not survive. If we don’t shape and equip the workforce today, there may not be a workforce tomorrow.”
Mr. Moore is a Crowley native and a First-generation college graduate in his family. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from McNeese State University and his Master’s degree in Public Administration from Southern University and A&M College. He has a wealth of experience working with the Louisiana Workforce Commission, the Department of Children and Family Services, Nueces County Health Department, Ochsner’s Hospital, and Mental Health Counseling.
